Northland Prep Poster Campaign
Education, Awareness, and Action for Wolves
We are a group of students from Northland Preparatory Academy working to reduce both accidental and intentional shootings of Mexican gray wolves. Our Lobo youth Summit campaign aims to raise awareness about the ecological importance of wolves, the laws that protect them, and how to distinguish wolves from coyotes, so hunters do not mistake one for the other.
Another key goal of our project is to de-stigmatize wolves in classroom settings and help younger students understand their role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. To do this, we are designing three targeted educational posters, each tailored to a specific audience: hunters, hikers and campers, and schoolchildren.
For hunters, our posters emphasize legal protections for wolves and highlight visual and behavioral differences between wolves and coyotes.
For hikers and campers, the focus is on the positive role wolves play in ecosystems and what to do if someone encounters a wolf in the wild.
For students, we are using simple, engaging language to communicate why wolves matter and how their presence benefits the landscapes we share.
Our next steps involve identifying specific locations, such as campgrounds, trailheads, hunting districts, and schools, where our posters will have the most impact. We already have a list of potential areas in mind and are now working to finalize those sites and obtain any necessary permissions to post our materials.
We believe that sharing these posters with our three main audiences is a powerful way to increase awareness, promote coexistence, and ultimately reduce the number of wolves harmed each year. With greater understanding comes greater respect, and that’s where real change begins.
