Estrella: A Wolf’s Journey
My name is Oscar Martinez, and I am a student at Estrella Mountain Community College. Ever since I was a kid, I have always admired creating stories and showcasing my artwork, when I heard about the project on the Mexican gray wolf from my environmental biology class teacher. Scott Milne, I knew that this was a million-to-one chance that I had been looking for in a project.
Throughout the last academic year, I have learn so much about the Mexican gray wolves, and their importance to the environment. When I joined the project at the beginning of January, I became one of the illustrators on the project, and when I started working on the assignment, I began designing the Mexican gray wolf and ranchers design and the environment of the Flagstaff and White Mountain areas, and Arizona I-40 highways.

At a later point in March, we were able to recruit more artists to the project and were able to create more pages for the book. They have show great work and the artwork is amazing, but they have been some problems at first since many of the artists have their own style for each pages as well as some rewrites for book, but in overall process we were able to communicate with each member of the team and created the I have learned to be a better team player in the project. They were challenging for me due to changing the design for the wolf and the story, but I was able to push through it and be productive for the project. I do know one thing for sure: everyone has committed themselves, writers, and illustrators, and others have shown that the wolves are not just bad animals but are the keystone species to keep balance in the ecosystem.
